[ Fun with Erica and Matt ] – Engagement Shoot Part 2

Photographing Erica and Matt at the Central Park was a lot of fun. But I wanted to take it one step further. I wanted to capture not just their personality, but also the romantic side of their relationship. What’s more romantic than the nighttime? Particularly in New York City, you can find places like this that offers beautiful ambience.

But you may wonder why there are not too many engagement shoots being done at night. From a technical standpoint, it’s just simply much harder to do. Camera sensors are not as sophisticated as our human eyes. They cannot capture exactly what we see.

Because of that, nighttime portraits often require adding artificial light (flash) and mixing it with with ambient light. However, if it’s not done right, the couples would look completely out of place as if there were car headlights beaming at them.

Despite of these difficulties, I pitched this idea to Erica and Matt because I really wanted to create something special for this lovely couple.

(P.S.  I am about to go to the airport in five minutes to join the rest of the group to take an early flight to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  I hope to give you a quick update tonight. Cheers!)
